We work with children to help them nurture the leadership skills in their true nature – in alignment with our parent company Rose and Redwood’s slogan Nurture your true nature.™

We’re called Rose and Lion Leadership because, once you rise up in alignment with your values you can say “I rose.” We begin with that vision of success – because every interested child will rise. Then, when you learn to effectively use your voice and talents, you’re using your voice like a lion, who roars to protect the pride. This generation of children will use their roar to make a positive difference, help people feel good and inspire others to join them.

Whether we’re doing a 2-hour event or something longer, we follow a simple, proven approach.

begin with story, bridge to exploration and practice then make it real

Stories have been used for centuries to teach important lessons.

We use story-telling to encourage children to use their imaginal sense. Stories provide a safe way to experience someone else’s perspective and learn lessons vicariously. Our stories feature quirky and fun characters who have strengths and weaknesses, yet they are still leaders in their own right.

Practice Makes Us Better

We then transition to practicing skills through games and experiments. We use the “renaissance” approach – meaning we’ll use a variety of approaches. One activity may involve cooking, another an exploration of nature, while others include a science experiment, active treasure hunt, outdoor game, craft activity or acting. Each of the activities has a purpose and is directly connected to the story, because it’s a continuation of the story, so we bridge story to practice… and then to real life.

Solving the Puzzles of Real Life

We solve “puzzles” (leadership-related problems) as we apply the skills to real life. Depending on the age group, we might be solving the problem on a microcosmic scale, such as creating a habitat for a butterfly, or be solving a problem for our neighborhood, such as creating a ‘free library’ to help others access books or developing an educational presentation about composting and food waste. As kids advance in the program, much of this work is self-directed, while coaches are available to help guide or answer questions.
