Through storytelling, children imagine themselves as stronger, wiser, more creative, more powerful and more confident than they feel inside. Stories help us learn. When we connect to characters, we imagine how they feel and “experience” their lives.
Storytelling helps build presentation skills and comfort in front of an audience. It also taps into the imagination and is a way we help children begin to safely experience what it would be like to be inside a situation, whether it’s standing up to a bully or using your voice to ask for what you want.
We use stories to build safe containers for children to learn, experiment and try new things. They learn to tell stories, too – and this helps them become more confident with public speaking and teaching their community about issues the kids find important.
Storytelling connects to the heart – and heart-based leadership is a foundational approach of Rose and Lion leadership for kids.
